Update on Fukushima Related Science Communication

The purpose of this post is to update the community here on the outcome of legal proceedings that I have been preoccupied with as of late. I wanted to thank the Daily Kos community for their support and attention to the Integrated Fukushima Ocean Radionuclide Monitoring (InFORM) project these last number of years. We are likely to continue efforts to monitor for Fukushima derived contamination in Canada’s marine environment and to scientifically evaluate risk to ecosystem and public health for a further 3 years into 2019.

A Canadian environmental activist who waged a sustained online campaign against two prominent marine scientists was found guilty of criminal harassment by a court in Victoria, British Columbia, on Thursday.

The court heard that Dana Durnford, 54, threatened violence against Jay Cullen, of the University of Victoria, and Ken Buesseler, of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Massachusetts, and accused them of underplaying the extent of damage to Pacific ecosystems from the 2011 Fukushima disaster.
